Day 144 - Butterfly Fairy

Dreaming of being  able to fly like a butterfly.

Day 143 - Ancient Specimens

Looks like old script writing with old butterfly specimens. Perhaps new parchment was too precious so some old page was used to hold the butterflies.

Day 142 - Froggy Wisdom

This is a die-cut from Graphic45 scrapbook papers. I love this scene; it looks like the frog is telling a fascinating story or imparting some very important froggy wisdom that the fairy will forget within the hour.

My blog is featured on Noah Scalin's blog 365: Make Something Everyday and Change Your Life! Thanks, Noah! Of course it happens right when things are falling apart here. This is yesterday's ATC but now it's for day-before-yesterday because the one I made for that day has disappeared! I hate when that happens, and I spent so much time looking for it that I didn't have time to finish today's ATC. Sigh... But I'll catch up - don't worry. And I'll probably find the missing ATC in the morning when I'm in a hurry to leave. :-)

Scrapbook papers, stamped letters.

Day 141 - Two Peas in a Pod

Liked this raised epoxy sticker. Blue scrap is from one of my painted deli wrap papers: crumple, paint, paint, paint, crumple again, paint more, repeat till happy. Used primarily transparent paints for luscious colors, then accented with bits of metallic and interference colors. Palette knife makes it easier to hit the peaks of the papers for more texture.

Day 140 - Social Butterfly

I found some raised embellishments with various themes. They are probably at least 4 or 5 years old and had gotten in the middle of some scrapbook papers in one of my multitude of paper holders. This is yesterday's ATC, but when I was about to take a picture of it, the acrylic part (with the image) detached from the backing that was already glued down. Sigh... So I had to glue it down and wait for the glue to dry before taking the picture today.

Day 139 - Tangles with Flowers

I haven't done many Zentangle-inspired things lately. I have this scrapbook paper with dots on it and decided to doodle on it, then added the old Rhodesian postage stamp.
Specialty paper, ink, postage stamp, embellishments.

Day 138 - Tourist Urchin

I like the faux postal collage sets I downloaded from Artchix Studios because I can print them on whatever I want. I printed out some of them on clear label paper, which can be fun. This Urchin Post is traveling Tourist Class. Where might he be going?

Day 137 - Kohlrabi Post

I don't think I've ever eaten kohlrabi, so I don't understand why it is so popular in collage materials. Perhaps I should give it a try.

Day 136 - Flora Post - White Poppies

These poppies are pretty, so I made another ATC from the Flora Post collage set I got. The background is from scrapbook paper, and I thought it went nicely. I added the green and yellow with Sakura Glaze pens - they are my most favorite decorative pens.

Day 135 - Princess of Birds

The picture on this ATC is from a label for dyes, I think early 1900s, but I'm not sure. It came as part of a collage sheet & they are all pretty. She looks like she's having a fun day relaxing and playing with the birds.

Day 134 - B is for Butterfly

OK, so I know I had a B is for Bloom a while back, but what the heck. This little guy was too cool to pass up.

Day 133 - Butterfly Treasure

Another butterfly collage inspired by my visit to the butterfly garden. Of course I didn't see these butterflies, but it's nice anyway.

Day 132 - Monarch Butterflies

Today I went to the Zoro Butterfly Garden in Balboa Park with the San Diego Sketchcrawlers. I blogged about the trip here. We did see plenty of Monarch butterflies, hence this ATC.

Day 131 - Monkey Performing the Sambasa Dance

This little cutie is a sumi-e painting in the Pacific Asia Museum. Isn't he grand? I love this painting. Mori Sosen, First Day of the Monkey Year, 1800.

Day 130 - Woman Playing a Lute

This detail is from a lovely painting we saw at the Norton Simon Museum. It is by Johannes Vermeer, painted around 1662 or 1663. It is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum, on loan to the Norton Simon. How wonderful to be able to see it up close! I probably spent 15 or 20 minutes just looking at this painting.

Day 129 - One Figure by Henry Moore

After visiting the Pacific Asia Museum, we went over to the Norton Simon Museum. This museum surprised me in the depth and quality of artwork in their collection. Before you go in, there are a bunch of Rodin sculptures in the garden area. They had 6 van Gogh paintings on display, 3 Rembrandts, a host of paintings from the Impressionist era, and over 100 works by Degas, many of them small bronzes. This picture is one of the 3 figures in a sculpture by Henry Moore; "Three Standing Figures" from 1953. Although my feet wore out by the end of the afternoon, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there and hope to go again.

Day 128 - Eagle in Snowstorm

This is a detail of a painting by Katsushika Hokusai from 1848, from the Pacific Asia Museum. One of the many reasons why this museum is worth visiting is that their collection is better than many in much larger museums.

Day 127 - Yin Yee

I'm getting behind in posting again, sorry about that. Last weekend I went on a bus trip to Pasadena. Our first stop was at the lovely Pacific Asia Museum. It is a very small museum, but has a phenomenal collection of art of Asia and the south Pacific. This is Yin Yee, one of the koi in the pond in the courtyard. She is over 50 years old and one of the most beautiful koi I have ever seen. I have never seen a koi with such long flowing fins.

Day 126 - Enlightened Paradox

More fridge magnet words. Note that Ch'an is the old-fashioned spelling of the Chinese word for zen.

Day 125 - The Mantra Effect

This is what happens when I've got too many word fridge magnets. Sorry the background sucks in this picture. It's actually really cool metallic-looking but I gave up trying to get a better picture.

Day 124 - Flora Post - Green / White

Another nice faux postal. I wanted to use the white flowers from this set, but thought that a theme of just white would be boring. Perhaps it's still boring.

Day 123 - Happy Birthday to my Niece!

Today is my niece's birthday! Happy Birthday Melissa! This picture is actually several years old, but I really like it - she looks quite mysterious and arty.
Also, today marks 4 months of my 365 project!

Day 122 - Flora Post - Peach

For some reason, when I had a garden I never had good luck with dahlias. I tried several times with different kinds of dahlias. Probably some basic thing I was overlooking.
